The "Crying Woman" emerged from a deep empathy for the stories of Black women and the profound pain wrought by broken systems that scar families and alienate individuals. This illustration hopes to be a representation of the silent struggles, grief, and resilience that women endure daily. Inspired by the voices of Black women who have bravely shared their experiences during the Black Lives Matter movement, this artwork aims to shed light on the often-overlooked emotional turmoil faced by many. The tears of this woman symbolize not only sorrow but also strength—a testament to the resilience that arises from adversity. Through this project, I hope to honor these narratives and encourage dialogue around the systemic issues that contribute to their pain, fostering a greater understanding and solidarity within our communities.
